Quaranta aka Prof Q
PERIODONTIST. THOUGHT LEADER AND HEALTH SPECIALIST
Professor Alessandro Quaranta (Prof Q) has been in specialist practice for 18 years since completing his specialist training from the “University of Rome,” La Sapienza”, the top university in Italy* and the largest University in Europe.
Born Italian, Prof Q is an Australian AHPRA registered Specialist Periodontist with a PhD in Dental Implantology with extensive clinical expertise in the surgical treatment of periodontitis, peri-implantitis and implant treatment in complex cases and patients.
Dr Lizzy Hui
PERIODONTIST
Born in Hong Kong, Lizzy moved to New Zealand at the age of 17 after the completion of her HKCEE public exam. Having completed her final year of High School in Tauranga, New Zealand with scholarships from the government under her belt, she went to the University of Otago, Dunedin to embrace the cold and began her journey of Dentistry. Five years later she graduated as a dentist with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and moved to NSW, Australia.

A Legacy Begins
The Quaranta family has a long legacy in dentistry that spans across generations. The patriarch of the family, Professor Manlio Quaranta, is a trailblazer in the field and is a world-renowned Prosthodontist and academic in Italy.
Despite coming from humble beginnings, Professor Manlio’s passion for dentistry was unrelenting. His journey began working as a dental technician when he was only thirteen-year-old. He fell in love with the industry and helping others and went on to work tirelessly to earn his degrees in first medicine and then dentistry. It was this drive and commitment that continued to propel him to further success.
In addition to creating a successful private practice, which has been established in Rome in 1964, just within walking distance from the iconic Coliseum, and is included in the heritage list of historical business of the area, Professor Manlio also forged a path in research and academia. By the 1980’s he had taken the Dental School in Chieti-Pescara to new heights, transforming it into one of the best in the country in both teaching and research.
Professor Manlio’s wife, Dr Linda Dionisi, is a also a Dental Specialist and shares his passion for helping people through dentistry. Together, they have built a life and a practice that centered around their shared values and beliefs of integrity, compassion, and excellence. They are committed to providing the highest quality dental care to their patients and advancing the field of dentistry through their academic work.
A Legacy Continues
Their son, Prof. Alex Quaranta (aka Prof Q) grew up in this unique and inspiring environment and followed in their footsteps to become a Periodontist with a PhD in Dental Implantology. Prof Q also pursued a successful academic and professional career in Italy, New Zealand and Australia.
He is now the Chief Clinical Consultant and Scientific Director at Kiama Dental Specialists. He also maintains a position as Clinical Professor at the University of Sydney and is globally known for his clinical expertise, his research activity, and educational skills that have inspired numerous alumni across two continents.
In 2017, Prof Q met the love of his life, fellow Periodontist, Dr Lizzy Hui. Dr Lizzy shared a similar determination and drive to take advanced dentistry to a new level of excellence. She also held a passion to take this level of service to all in need, including those in regional and remote areas both within Australia and across the world.
Dr Lizzy is currently the Director and Clinical Consultant at Kiama Dental Specialists alongside her position of Head of Department of Periodontics, Prosthodontics and Endodontics at the Sydney Dental Hospital.
Their commitment to excellence and innovation has earned them a reputation as leaders in their field. They are constantly striving to improve their skills and knowledge, staying at the forefront of new techniques and technologies that can benefit their patients.
The union of Prof Alex Quaranta and Dr Lizzy Hui in both business and life has resulted in the creation of something truly special. Together, they have established Kiama Dental Specialists, with locations in Newcastle and Sydney. These premium dental practices are focused on providing the highest level of Periodontic care to patients, while promoting innovation and excellence in the field of dentistry.
